Dr Salehi works as a Senior Physicist, in the Department of nuclear medicine at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Since her arrival in Australia in 1981 Dr Salehi has been an active advocate for Afghan Refugees, working on behalf of Afghan refugees and Afghans in Australia. From 1992-1994 she was the President of the Afghan Australia Council, and in 1994 she founded the Afghan Support Group in Victoria, which works for new arrivals.
